Chantal Callewaert, InBev
I joined InBev as a personal assistant, and now I am responsible for organising Corporate InBev events in Belgium and abroad. I won my promotion not by paper qualifications, but through inherent ability.
Over nine years I was gradually doing more and more organising, and my talent was spotted. The change came with the first World Management Convention in London in 2000. My boss started it up, and I took over — the whole coordination, decision making, and logistics. A year later, for the Prague convention, I had a much deeper responsibility. I chose the locations, the people we worked with, everything. That was a dream come true.
We worked on the technical side with an agency who know us very well from Belgium, and with a local agency for the Prague logistics. Not a detail was left hanging. People felt it was done with passion, by those who really knew the company. It gave me a very good feeling, especially the reactions afterwards.
InBev has recognised what I can do, and allowed me to pilot my own career. The advantage I have is that my job never existed before. I can design it as I go along. I’m proud to shape outside perceptions of InBev. This is a good company, and it deserves to have a good name. The image of InBev is very dear to me.
